A member of the Democratic Party, she served as the U.S. representative for California's 6th congressional district from 1983 until 1993.

Barbara Boxer (b. November 11, 1940, in Brooklyn, NY) is a former Democratic member of the U.S. Senate from the state of California. Boxer served from 1993 to 2017. Boxer did not seek re-election to the Senate in 2016. On January 8, 2015, she announced her plan to retire at the end of the current term.
