Timothy Michael Kaine ( / keɪn / KAYN; born February 26, 1958) is an American lawyer and politician serving as the junior United States senator from Virginia since 2013. A member of the Democratic Party, he served as the 70th governor of Virginia from 2006 to 2010, and as the 38th lieutenant governor of Virginia from 2002 to 2006.

Jan 20, 2023 · Sen. Tim Kaine announced Friday he will seek a third term, which is welcome news for Democrats as they face a tough 2024 cycle. Kaine, who has represented Virginia in the U.S. Senate since 2013, said "there is so much to be done."
Kaine himself was the vice presidential running mate of Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election, ultimately losing to Republican Donald Trump despite their campaign winning the popular vote.
