After Relient K was founded by Matt Thiessen, Matt Hoopes and Brian Pittman in 1998, Todd Frascone joined for a short time in 1998 as a drummer. However, Frascone left the band after recording the demo All Work & No Play .

Shortly after the recording of All Work & No Play, Frascone left the band and was replaced by Stephen Cushman. In the meantime, Relient K's demo disc caught the attention of Toby McKeehan (tobyMac) of dc Talk, which ultimately led to the band's signing a record label with Gotee Records.
They found a drummer named Todd Frescone, and he played with the band for about a year. In Feb. 1998, Relient K recorded an independent demo with Mark Townsend. It was crappy but fun to have recorded music.
