  2. Students in the School of Communication pursue either a Bachelor of Arts in Communication (BACMN) or a Bachelor of Science in Communication (BSCMN) with a major in Communication Studies, Dance, Performance Studies, Radio/Television/Film, or Theatre.

  3. Communication Studies is the perfect major for students with multiple interests and diverse talents because the discipline provides theory, tools, and techniques for analyzing, managing and improving communication in every arena of professional and personal interaction.

  4. Students majoring in Communication Studies will learn to analyze organizational, cultural, interpersonal and mass media communication. Communication Studies undergraduate students ground their studies in Northwestern’s liberal arts model and apply knowledge gained in this coursework to their research and career goals.

  5. The bachelor's degree in communication covers three main areas of study: media industries, audiences, and effects; media design and production; and media history and aesthetics. 32 Units.   6. 18 units of credit outside the department, including 3 units of credit from each of the three School of Communication distribution areas: science, mathematics, and technology; individual and social behavior; and humanities and fine arts.

  7. Our program equips students with the practical and analytical skills and knowledge related to communication principles — how to understand audiences, shape messages and interact with individuals and technologies, as well as the power and influence of communication on society.
