In Greek mythology, Caeneus or Kaineus (/ ˈ s ɛ n j uː s / SEN-yooss; Ancient Greek: Καινεύς, romanized: Kaineús) was born a female, Caenis (/ ˈ s iː n ɪ s /; Ancient Greek: Καινίς, romanized: Kainís) the daughter of Elatus, who was raped by Poseidon and transformed by him into an invulnerable man.

Caeneus, in Greek mythology, the son of Elatus, a Lapith from the mountains of Thessaly in what is now northern Greece. At the marriage of Pirithous, king of the Lapiths, the Centaurs (creatures part man and part horse), who were guests, attacked the bride and other women.
