'Instalado' is a social science fiction set in a farming village in the not-so-distant future. Victor lives in a time when the dominant form of education is through installation, a process wherein bodies of knowledge can be installed directly into people's brains using technology owned by big corporations.
But film director Jason Paul Laxamana is about to change up the game through his social science fiction movie Instalado. With this sci-fi drama actually taking place in the Philippines, the Filipino audience gets a more relatable taste of what a potentially harmful system can do to its people.
“Instalado” is my first attempt in futurist cinema. This one, however, uses the perspective of the Philippine countryside where agriculture dominates, not only to avoid the necessity of showing high-tech visuals which independent film makers like me could not a afford, but also to try a uniquely Philippine form of rural cyberpunk.
