The Notre-Dame Basilica of Montréal is in the English Gothic Revival style — its towers are very slender compared to its central core, its volume is vertical and its façade is sparsely ornamented. During a trip to France, Pastor Rousselot was impressed by the style and symbolism of the Sainte-Chapelle in Paris.
Doors open 30 minutes before each service. Masses are celebrated in French only. We take no reservations for Masses, except for midnight Mass on December 25. For recollection, prayer and meditation, the Basilica displays the Blessed Sacrament.
Throughout the year, several celebrations in the liturgical calendar are marked by special ceremonies that are open to all. Weddings are celebrated in the Notre-Dame du Sacré-Cœur Chapel or in the Basilica itself. The wedding venue is reserved for the couple. Ceremonies are usually held on Saturdays from April to November inclusive. However, parishioners may also celebrate their marriages from December to March. Please note that no weddings can be held on Sundays.
