  1. Dec 17, 2020 · June Allyson remained wildly popular throughout most of the 1950s. Many people associate her more with MGM's late 1940s musicals (1947's Good News was her best) but she was only getting started then. As much as Betty Grable was the pin-up girl for whom the GIs fought WWII, June represented the home town sweetheart for whom they all returned.

  2. Mar 9, 2024 · Jean Allison is DEAD to ME! Not to be confused with June Allyson and her bladder pads. Y'know, they offered me that Depends commercial, too. Lotta money! Just one little problem: I don't SHIT MY PANTS! R2 I'm surprised you don't, Evie. Especially after that car accident where you mowed down a family of six.

  3. Oct 5, 2021 · I find that Stanwyck/Allyson incident suspect. By the time of Executive Suite (1954), June was a long-time season pro in Hollywood and hardly someone who would have dared disrespect her fellow cast members, especially at her very disciplined MGM home studio.

  4. Aug 15, 2015 · JUNE ALLYSON - During the first few years of her screen career (early to mid 40's) she had a youthful freshness about her that was somewhat appealing. As she aged (rather quickly) all that was left was a sexless, irritating harpy attempting to be cute. Unwatchable. DAN DAILEY - Unattractive & Unappealing.

  5. Jun 13, 2021 · June 13, 2021 3:56 PM. Van Johnson, Peter Lawford, Robert Walker, and Tom Drake rose up the ranks at MGM because all its established male stars went off to war. These new leading men were all kind of bland and lacked sexual allure, but I guess American audiences needed sweet and wholesome during those troubling times.

  6. Jan 20, 2018 · June Allyson with her sing-song appeal is just grating to me. Her Jo in Little Women is the worst one. Errol Flynn was handsome but his movies are forgettable. Mickey Rooney. How he became a star tells you everything about early (ish) movie audiences. This guy would the comic side kick at best these days. I also dislike his movies.

  7. Jun 30, 2024 · June Lockhart was better educated and more enlightened than Graham. Thank God for the theatre community and the film and television industry. Yes, there were those like Graham. And then there were those like Lockhart (as well as the guy next to her on the couch). The latter were at the forefront of acceptance. Liked her as Maureen Robinson.

  8. Oct 29, 2021 · Allyson was married to Dick Powell who led Four Star Television (with David Niven, Charles Boyer and non-owner partner Ida Lupino), a successful production company through the 50s and early 60s. Television was the logical place for her to go and only required some nepotism.

  9. Sep 7, 2022 · June Haver. Linda Darnell. Though Gene Tierney is remembered, if only for LAURA. Grable is the standard for faded stars. She was the biggest Hollywood star of the '40s, though very few of her movies have aged well. She died only in her 50s in 1973, right when the "nostalgia" boom was in full flower.

  10. Jul 22, 2019 · Miss June Lockhart. Let's discuss the career of June Lockhart. To me, she always seemed rather "vanilla". When you consider her contemporaries were actresses like Shelley Winters, Donna Reed and Shirley Jones, June just sort of seemed to be "there" without carving a niche for herself. Even though June got her start in movies (both her parents ...
