She felt Bette’s antagonism. Frank Capra, the Director, told Hope that Bette Davis was “delicate spirited”. Hope replied, “Bette Davis is as delicate spirited as a Sherman Tank!”

She was warm and charming and funny (I didn’t yet know she’d spent years as a drunk, shacked up with gay drunk John Cheever).

Besides, Nettie has deserved everything for quite some time. And I’m certainly not like certain obnoxious fans who foam at the mouth over lesser talents.

Ford also insisted Hope Lange get the part Capra wanted Shirley Jones for. Though later Jones had good things to say about Ford when they starred in The Courtship Of Eddie's Father.

Then things continued to rise for Hope, not so much for Don, which he acknowledges in the UCLA interview also upthread.

It was “The 3:30 Movie” from time to time, and I and my two brothers (they turned out straight, somehow) delighted in watching it at every airing. Get a load of the trailer, OP.
