Chief Justice Gesmundo was a former Vice-Chairperson of the Department of Remedial Law of the Philippine Judicial Academy (PHILJA) and a member of its Corps of Professors as a Professorial Lecturer in Remedial Law. He was the Examiner in Remedial Law in the 2009 and 2015 Bar examinations.

Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo is the 27 th Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. He obtained his law degree from the Ateneo de Manila University in 1984. After passing the bar the following year, he joined the Office of the Solicitor General where he was awarded Most Outstanding Solicitor in 1998.

Apr 2, 2021 · President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Supreme Court (SC) Associate Justice Alexander Gesmundo as Chief Justice, a Malacañang official said Friday. “Yes,” Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo said in a text message when asked to confirm Gesmundo’s appointment.
As of April 5, 2021, the position is currently held by Alexander Gesmundo, who was appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte following the early retirement of his predecessor, Diosdado Peralta, in March 2021.
