In June 1974, the efforts by the management to upgrade the IPH into a 200-bed capacity were realized with the approval of 164 personnel. Eight years later in 1982, pursuant to Batas Pambansa (BP) Bilang 640, page 315, IPH was upgraded and reclassified into a regional hospital, then named as Western Visayas Regional Hospital with an increase from 164 to 247 plantilla personnel.
