Professor Emeritus in the Practice of Design at David Geffen School of Drama and Yale Repertory Theatre Lighting Design Advisor. Jennifer Tipton is well known for her work in dance, theater and opera. Her recent work in dance includes Paul Taylor’s Three Dubious Memories and Liam Scarlett’s Asphodel Meadows for the Royal Ballet, London.
Ms. James received a B.F.A. in Theatre from The Ohio State University. She was an Associate Professor and Head of Design at the Virginia Commonwealth University Department of Theatre, where she taught from 2007–2019. She was awarded an honorary doctorate by Sewanee, The University of the South, in 2018.
