Mitzie Welch went on for Burnett, but in November 1964, the producers announced that the show would close until Burnett was able to return. When the show's producers threatened a breach-of-contract lawsuit, Burnett returned on February 15, 1965.

He'd won an Emmy award for the " My Name is Barbra " television show for Ms. Streisand and later also directed and produced the first U.S. television special for Olivia Newton-John.
