James Alvin Palmer (born October 15, 1945) is an American former professional baseball pitcher who played 19 years in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Baltimore Orioles (1965–1967, 1969–1984). Palmer was the winningest MLB pitcher in the 1970s, totaling 186 wins. [1] .

Though UCLA offered him a basketball scholarship, Jim Palmer chose instead to sign with the Orioles in 1963. Palmer made his major league debut age 19 in 1965 and hit a home run in his first career win a month later.

Palmer became the youngest pitcher to record a World Series shutout when he defeated Sandy Koufax and the Dodgers, 6-0, in Game 2 in 1966. Nine days short of his 21st birthday, Palmer held the Dodgers to four hits, all but one of them singles.
