Welcome to Catherine's House, the first house of Mercy built by Catherine McAuley in response to the needs of the poor of Dublin. It is home to the Mercy family from all over the world. Catherine's House is a Centre of Hospitality, Heritage, Pilgrimage and Renewal.
In a spirit of unity and enrichment, Sisters of Mercy from all over the world returned to Baggot Street in 1994 for the opening of Mercy International Centre, creating a "Wellspring of Mercy" with the mingling of waters in the rill in the Sacred Garden.
In the 1980s, interest in the future of the Baggot Street house was aroused among Sisters of Mercy worldwide and in the possibility of an international collaboration in the restoration of this historic place.
The building began in 1824 and the house was opened on 24 September 1827. As this was the feast day of Our Lady of Mercy, the house was called the House of Mercy. The instigator and owner of the house was Catherine McAuley, it is located on Lower Baggot Street, Dublin, Ireland.
Jun 5, 2024 · With the legacy from the Callaghans, McAuley commissioned a large building on Baggot Street in Dublin. She developed a program for instructing and training poor girls and women, distributing food and clothing to the needy, and performing other works of mercy.
