Sep 21, 2020 · Jean-Pierre Hébert was an early practitioner of algorithmic art who created his first drawings in 1977 and expanded his practice from plotter drawings to ephemeral, computer-driven installations with sand, water, and wind.
Jean-Pierre Hébert (1939 – March 28, 2021) was an American artist of French origin. He specialized in algorithmic art, drawings, and mixed media. He co-founded the Algorists in 1995 with Roman Verostko.
Considered one of the pioneers of digital art, I started experimenting with drawing with a computer in the mid-1970s. From 1984 on, I dedicated myself to the exploration of algorithmic digital drawings. In 1995, I co-founded the Algorists. I coined the word and coded an algorithmic definition of it.
