Whitesboro is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) located within Middle Township in Cape May County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. [9] Until the 2000 census the area had been part of the Whitesboro-Burleigh CDP, which was split in 2010 into separate CDPs for Burleigh and Whitesboro. [ 10 ]

Dec 1, 2011 · Whitesboro, New Jersey was established in 1902 as a town exclusively for African Americans. The idea came in response to increasing white resistance to black residents in Cape May County, New Jersey.
Whitesboro was intentionally created to be a safe haven and self-reliant community for and by African-Americans. On January 25th, 1927, Whitesboro’s community leaders convened a meeting to discuss incorporating Whitesboro as a borough under New Jersey State Law. By a vote of 86-5, Whitesboro’s residents decided then against incorporation.

And before his death, Whitesboro did become a place where hopes and desires of African-Americans could be fulfilled, and stands today as a fully chartered town in the State New Jersey.
