In the Philippines, rabies continues to be an endemic disease despite the availability of effective and safe vaccines. Incidence of rabies in the country is estimated to be 6-8 per million populations, one of the highest worldwide.

Jul 13, 2022 · The Philippines has recorded 157 cases of rabies from January 1 to June 25, all of which were fatalities, the Department of Health (DOH) announced Wednesday. In a message to reporters, the DOH said cases this year are 5% lower compared to reported cases during the same period last year at 165.
Since January this year, a total of 55 cases of human rabies have already been reported in the Philippines, an increase of 8 % compared to last year. According to the Department of Health, this is the result of increased rabies surveillance.

Jul 19, 2022 · Rabies remains a public health problem in the Philippines despite improvements in the availability of rabies vaccines and rabies immunoglobulin (RIG) as post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP). The incidence of rabies is highest in Metro Manila and surrounding areas.
In the Philippines, GARC worked with the local and national government to set up comprehensive model rabies elimination programmes, incorporate rabies prevention into the education curriculum, increase awareness across the country and improve surveillance measures.
As an individual: • Get yourself pre-exposure anti-rabies vaccine if you have a high-risk occupation (e.g. pet shop owner, dog pound handler). • Know how to avoid or protect yourself from animal bites (e.g. wearing protective equipment).
May 5, 1999 · The number of cases of rabies in the Philippines—which currently ranks fourth worldwide in incidence of the disease—is increasing, despite government promises to rid the country of the problem by 2020. In 1998, 362 Filipinos died of rabies, compared with 321 in 1997 and 337 in 1996.
