What is Supplementary Feeding Program (SFP)? The food supplementation is in the form of hot meals served during snack/ meal time to children in minimum of five and maximum of seven days a week for 120 days. The feeding program is managed by parents/caregivers based on a prepared cycle menu using available indigenous food supplies.
Jan 12, 2023 · The School-Based Feeding Program (SBFP) is one intervention to address undernutrition of school children. The Philippine Department of Education (DepEd) partners with various organizations to implement the SBFP.
The SBFP of DepED involves feeding primary pupils for 100-120 feeding days using a 20-day cycle of standardized recipes with malunggay. Each meal has at least 300 calories; this is lower than (876) calories per meal in feeding programs elsewhere (Adelman et al. 2008).
Under the law, the government shall provide a supplemental feeding program for daycare children, a school-based feeding program for public school children from kinder to Grade 6, a milk-feeding program, a micronutrient feeding program, health examinations, vaccinations, and deworming among others.
The SBFP covers all Severely Wasted (SW) and Wasted (W) Kindergarten to Grade 6 pupils for SY 2017-2018. The program primarily aims to improve the nutritional status of the beneficiaries by at least 70% at the end of 120 feeding days.
