Potter Stewart (January 23, 1915 – December 7, 1985) was an American lawyer and judge who served as an associate justice of the United States Supreme Court from 1958 to 1981. Potter Stewart (born Jan. 23, 1915, Jackson, Mich., U.S.—died Dec. 7, 1985, Hanover, N.H.) was an associate justice of the United States Supreme Court (1958–81). Stewart was admitted to the bar in New York and Ohio in 1941 and after World War II settled in Cincinnati.
