Known as Blythe Field and Gary Field, it began training United States Army Air Forces flying cadets under contract to Morton Air Academy. Assigned to United States Army Air Forces West Coast Training Center (later Western Flying Training Command) as a primary (level 1) pilot training airfield.

Dec 15, 2018 · There was another airfield in Blythe, Gary Field, near the present-day golf course, which had a private pilot training school known as the Morton Air Academy. The school was contracted by the Army Air Corps early in the war to give primary training to Air Corps cadets.
Gary Field was the site of the Morton Air Academy, which provided contract primary flight training to the Army Air Corps during WW2. The date of construction of Gary Field is unknown. However, a 1944 class book from the Morton Air Academy (courtesy of Bob Alvis)
