Studia reżyserskie w łódzkiej PWSFTviT podjął w 1962 roku. Przerwał je w roku 1964 i zaczął studiować na uniwersytecie filozofię i historię. Po trzyletniej przerwie podjął z powrotem naukę w szkole filmowej. Zrealizował film absolutoryjny i ukończył studia w 1969 roku (dyplom otrzymał w 1998 roku).
