About. Since its beginnings in 1937, Meridian Community College continues to meet the diverse needs of its community. In addition to a strong university transfer program, MCC offers adult literacy and high school study programs leading to GED/HSE diploma, one and two-year career programs in a variety of business, health and technology fields and a comprehensive workforce development center.
Founded in 1937 as the "13th" and "14th" grades at Meridian High School, Meridian Community College is the only one of Mississippi's 15 public community colleges to originate through the initiative of the local school system. MCC began as the vision of Dr. H.M. Ivy (1884–1977), superintendent of the Meridian Separate School District in the 1930s.

Jul 11, 2024 · The Board of Trustees of the Meridian Junior College District unanimously concurred on July 23, 1987, at its regular meeting to change the name of Meridian Junior College to Meridian Community College. The State Board for Community and Junior Colleges approved the name change on August 20, 1987. The name change took effect October 1, 1987.
