Equipped with a separate campus one-eighth of a mile from Brown’s main campus, Pembroke was overseen by the Dean of Pembroke College.
After Alumnae Hall was built in 1927, Pembroke Hall was converted to purely academic uses with the top floor serving as a library. Today, the building houses the Pembroke Center for Teaching and Research on Women and the Cogut Center for the Humanities.
In 1928, the Women’s College was renamed Pembroke College in Brown University. The chosen name made sense, given that the College was informally called Pembroke in reference to the name of its main building (Pembroke Hall).
