John David Newcombe AO OBE (born 23 May 1944) is an Australian former professional tennis player. He is one of the few men to have attained a world No. 1 ranking in both singles and doubles. At the majors, he won seven singles titles, a former record 17 men's doubles titles, and two mixed doubles titles.

In an amateur and professional career, Newcombe was considered the world’s best player in 1967, 1970 (tied) and 1971 (tied), prior to the advent of the PIF ATP Rankings, and was among the world’s Top 10 between 1965 and 1974.
