Aug 31, 2021 · Lon Morris College was the oldest junior college in Texas, founded in 1854 and closed in 2012. It was a Methodist school in Jacksonville, accredited by the Southern Association of Schools and Colleges and Phi Theta Kappa.
After attaining state accreditation in 1915-16, the school began, in 1919, to advertise itself as the oldest junior college in East Texas. In 1924 it took the name Lon Morris College to honor financial benefactor Alonzo Morris.
