About PEFC. PEFC, the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification, is a leading global alliance of national forest certification systems. An international non-profit, non-governmental organization, we are dedicated to promoting sustainable forest management through independent third-party certification.
The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification was created in 1999 by a group of European forest owners and managers, led by the Confederation of European Forest Owners (CEPF), to meet the growing demand for certification, particularly in developing countries where the costs of certification could be prohibitive.
This standard lays out the requirements for chain of custody certification for forest-based products – the conditions a company must meet to achieve PEFC certification. In addition, this standard includes minimum requirements on health, safety and labour issues.
