First parameter to .paste () is the image to paste. Second are coordinates, and the secret sauce is the third parameter. It indicates a mask that will be used to paste the image. If you pass a image with transparency, then the alpha channel is used as mask. Check the docs.

Dec 27, 2008 · The small/top image will have to have an alpha channel and be transparent in the background for the overlay to work. You should be able to ensure this pretty easily in Photoshop or something similar. Make sure you save in a format that supports the alpha channel, such as PNG.

Result: As you can see, despite the panel and most of the image being transparent, the progressbar still underlays it with a rectangle in its own BackColor; which, see above, can't be transparent. This should print "RGBA". If not, you'll have to make sure the alpha channel is saved with the image. You'll have to consult your graphics program manual for how to do that.
