If you have ever disassembled a ptfe joint you would know that the tape is smashed and stretched in the joint spaces until it does not resemble tape. I have found that the white tape actually flows into the spaces better than the yellow tape creating a better seal.

The correct answer is to use pipe dope the Teflon tape over the pipe dope. Teflon tape is not a sealant of any sort is only a thread lubricant. A true pipe thread sealer is pipe dope. As I just asked a sprinkler fitter why he was pipe doping then Teflon taping all pipe threads and that was the answer he gave me.
Mar 4, 2018 · The gas line has a flare fitting 1/2 in. that goes into a 1/2 in. x 3/8 in. coupling/reducer (in order to fit into a 3/8 in. gas connector, as suggested by help from Home Depot) and then into an excess flow valve, which then goes into a 3/8 in. gas connector (and then the dryer) Should I put Teflon Tape or Sealant on any of these connections?
Jul 28, 2011 · 36. Wrap clockwise - i.e. in the same direction as the tightening action of the nut. This means that you are also tightening the tape around the thread. If you wrap anti-clockwise I find that the tape bunches up and comes away. As for the number of layers - I usually wrap the tape around at least twice, maybe even three or four times.

May 22, 2023 · Put a piece of blue tape on the outer black wire on the thermostat. Put a piece of yellow tape on each of the white wires that was not hot. Put a piece of yellow tape on the outer red wire on the thermostat. Connect wires by color (natural color if no tape, tape color if there is tape). Turn on the breaker. Test the thermostat.

The only place tape is to be used is on threads, to be exact, tapered threads, the kind that are on pipe nipples, or the male threaded ends of valves for example. These are the kind that get tighter as you twist the parts together. If you look at the threaded end you can see the pipe is smaller at the end than farther down the length.
