And it's clear that whatever he saw, was absolutely terrifying. But I can't seem to find an account I thought I found a while back, that did actually say what Les saw.

  3. Sid James had much of his success on they coat tails of others.....Tony Hancock and The Carry On team....There were so many big stars on the Carry On Films.. Sid, Hattie and Kenneth (and even Hugh Lloyd) all outclassed Hancock, as he very well knew.

I say "sort of" covered, as their article, on page 52 and attributed to "John West", appears to have lifted wholesale from the original coverage in Fortean Times and just seems to be an abbreviated version of the FT story.

  5. Oct 15, 2019 · Les was supposed to have seen Sid’s ghost at the Empire in 1989. He didn’t die till 1993 and therefore had a number of years to scotch the story if it was untrue. He never did. Contrary to a number of fanciful meanderings in the Press, Melvyn James doesn’t seem convinced that the Sunderland Empire is really haunted.

A Time Before Genesis (1986) by Les Dawson. The rare book shown above (try getting hold of a copy) is Les Dawson’s only serious work of fiction.
