May 29, 2009 · Since what I mean is love FROM mom, the comma is needed. However, since "thanks" is not a verb, there is less chance for confusion, but I would still include the comma. ALso I would capitalize Mom and Dad and Aunt Iris, which refer to specific individuals in this case, and thus function as proper nouns.

Mate is more commonly used in British English and Australian English-speaking countries, while amigo is more commonly used in Spanish-speaking countries. However, both words are widely understood and used in many parts of the world.

Because I speak British English, I don't use the word "buddy" or "dude" for "friend." "Pal" is now pretty rare in my part of the world. "Mate" still exists, and is used informally in a lower register to mean "friend."

People who have la peau matte (that's how I've always seen it spelt, but maybe you can do it both ways) have skin that tans easily. I think the opposite would be peau claire but I couldn't say for sure. It does not necessarily refer to colour of skin.
