From the perspective of a kid who lived under martial law—and also happens to be the director of the film—Liway (2018) is an agonizing reminder of Marcos' dictatorship and the family's atrocities during their regime to the Filipino people. As it only provides a portion of that story, a richer background to the narrative should have been explored for the knowledge of the general audience.
