Apr 2, 2019 · Eerie is perhaps the most enjoyable Filipino horror movie that I’ve seen so far. Definitely a standard way above the Shake, Rattle, and Roll movie franchise, or any other Pinoy horror films. Most of our horror movies have sucked so much that I’ve just stopped watching them. But this movie has reset the calibration in the industry.
Eerie. 1999 Manila, Philippines. Ms. Pat (Bea Alonzo) works as the guidance counselor in a conservative, all-girls, Catholic high school. Secretly a clairvoyant, waits at her desk every night for midnight therapy sessions with the ghost of Eri (Gillian Vicencio) – a student who committed suicide in the school grounds more than a decade ago.
That genre is the EERIE FILM; Movies that take a while to develop characters audiences care about, and instill a general sense of “dread.” These films may not make you jump, but instead rely on mood and atmosphere, as well as successful character likeability, to get under your skin. The 20 films on this list use the slow-burn technique.
Eerie is aesthetically pleasing with its almost flawless cinematography and haunting moody atmosphere, but unfortunately, the story itself was poorly executed, ignoring to tackle its important themes (mental health/depression, suicide, eduction system of the Philippines, etc.) that could've made this horror film better.
