Hubble is designed to make highly detailed observations of much smaller patches of sky: the space telescope’s observations of the Andromeda Galaxy show individual stars and clusters rather than the broad spiral structure visible here.

It was detected because of a microlensing event in 1999. Astronomers are currently working on trying to confirm it, and if they do, it would be the first official extragalactic planet ever found.
