He was the son of the late film actors Alicia Vergel and César Ramírez, and brother of actress Beverly Vergel.

Ace Vergel was pronounced dead on December 15, at 3:17 a.m. Chinese General Hospital listed heart attack as the official cause of his death. Sister Beverly Vergel recounted her brother's final battle.
