Actor William Talman (1915-1968) is probably most familiar as Los Angeles District Attorney Hamilton Burger, from the long-running TV series Perry Mason. Talman is less-known as a truly effective noir actor, especially in the title role in The Hitch-Hiker.
Just before this episode was shot, William Talman injured his right leg and was fitted for a cast. The writers had no choice but to work this into the script--Hamilton Burger wears a cast and ambles about on crutches throughout the episode.
