It was rebuilt by Santiago de Vera’s successor Gomez Perez Dasmariñas, the architect being Leonardo Iturriano, and the new fort, built of volcanic tufa, was progressively enlarged until the early 18th century.
Fort Santiago is located on Santa Clara Street along the Pasig River near Rizal Park. The easiest and most convenient way to visit the fort is on a guided tour of Old Manila, but it's also possible to arrive via public transportation. On the LRT, depart at Central Station or Carriedo Station and walk or catch a jeepney to the fort.
