The VCU Medical Center, formerly known as the Medical College of Virginia (MCV), is the medical campus of Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), located in downtown Richmond, Virginia, United States. As MCV, VCU Medical Center merged with the Richmond Professional Institute in 1968 to create VCU.
Visitor Information. We believe the support of family and friends is important to healing while patients are in the hospital. Visitors who arrive between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m. are asked to check in at the security desk at Critical Care Hospital. We know visitation restrictions have not been easy.

Feb 7, 2024 · VCU Medical Center is an 805-bed tertiary medical center that attracts large number of complicated, unusual, and different urologic cases from across Virginia, West Virginia, and North Carolina. It is the region’s only Level 1 trauma center for adults and children, and is the largest safety net hospital in the state.

Through approximately 24 physicians and 14 advanced practice providers working each day, the Division of Hospital Medicine provides 24-hour clinical care at VCU Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia, VCU Tappahannock Hospital in Tappahannock, Virginia, and the new Hospital at Home Program.
